Folk Meets Jazz
Kirsty Griffiths, mezzo-soprano, paved her way as an interpreter of orchestral works with voice such as Brahms Alto Rhapsody, Elgar’s Sea Pictures and Wagner’s Wesendonk-Lieder, as well as establishing herself as an Oratorio soloist (Handel’s Messiah, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Beethoven’s Thamos in Agypten, Haydn’s Salve Regina, Verdi’s Requiem, Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius and The Music Makers) and opera singer.
In 2014 and 2015 she sang for Aung San Suu Kyi and performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival with the Academie Vocale de Suisse Romande. She has performed vocal recitals for the “Prestige Artist” series in Geneva and is regularly in concert in Switzerland, France, Italy, Myanmar and Tunisia.
She has sung for Prince Hassan of Jordan, Princess Galyani Vadhana of Thailand and performed harp for two Lebanese Presidents, President Saad-eddine Rafic Al-Hariri and President Michael Suleiman, on the occasion of the Memorial for Minister Basil Fuleihan.
Ying Hua Huang on the piano, well known to our regular visitors to the Rose Garden Piano salon, is a pianist from Taiwan. She has been focusing on contemporary music and cooperating with different kind of musicians, and has performed in Taiwan, Russia, France, UK, China, and Myanmar. Ms. Huang has worked under Victor Karpovich Merzhanov, Shan-Shan Wang, Ru-Xing Huang, Hsing-Chwen Giselle Hsin, Lynn Raley, and David Owen Norris’ guidance. She holds a B.A. from National Taiwan University of Arts, and a M.M. from National Chiao Tung University.
Gisela Pinto Zincone, is a Brazilian piano player and composer. She started her studies of classical piano in Brazil as a child. As a young adult she moved to New York City and studied jazz piano and scat singing at City College of New York. Back in Brazil she formed a girls band named Afrodite se Quiser. The band recorded two albuns and had a hit song on the top 40`s chart of Brazil. Since then, she has become a book publisher, publishing sheet music and text books. She is currently living in Myanmar.
Ningru Sut Seng Du, an emerging young-talented Myanmar pianist and has joined in many concerts and events. Currently he is working under Ms. Ying-Hua Huang’s guidance. Mr. Sut Seng Du holds a B.A in music from Myanmar Institute of Theology. Now he is an adjunct lecturer at MIT, and an accompanist of the MIT Choir.
